Criminalizing Mental Illness

More than a quarter of a million people with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and other severe mental illnesses are forced into prisons and jails six times as much as hospitals. However, most have committed minor, non-violent crimes caused by the symptoms of untreated illness.
