North Korea Bans Cellphones
Nearly a year and a half after the service was introduced in the country, North Korea recalls all cellphones and prohibits the use of them. Government officials originally thought they would make communication more convenient but later realized the devices flooded the country with foreign culture and ideology. The ban remained in place until 2008, but there were still restrictions even after that. To this day, North Korea still hasn't fully adopted mainstream internet technology due to its isolationist policies.
