The First Black Attorney General

Eric H. Holder Jr. becomes the first Black person to serve as the U.S. Attorney General. Prior to his appointment, he also previously served as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia in 1993, becoming the first Black person to do so as well. Holder made community outreach a priority, establishing a domestic violence task force and forging partnerships with local civic groups.
