The #MeToo Movement Gains Popularity

Founded by Tarana Burke in 2006, the MeToo Movement is a social movement that highlights the sexual abuse and harassment committed by powerful individuals. It is also an organization that provides resources for survivors at no cost to them. Despite being around for years, it wasn't until October 2017 that the movement gained global recognition. With the revelations surrounding the abuse committed by Harvey Weinstein, survivors around the world began to use the hashtag to tell their stories. Since then, it has grown into a global movement.
