
The Patriot Act Is Enacted
The USA Patriot Act was passed shortly after the September 11 terrorist attacks. It gave law enforcement agencies the power to investigate, indict, and bring terrorists to justice. Previously, Congress had mainly relied on legislation to prevent international terrorism.
