The United States Shuts Down Government

The United States Government shutdown for the first time since 1996. The shutdown occurred after Congress failed to agree on a new budget. The failure resulted in a 16-day shut down. During the time period, 800,000 employees were furloughed and 1.3 million were forced to work without pay.
