Uber Is Founded

Uber was founded by Garrett Camp and Travis Kalanick in 2009. It was originally called Ubercab and was founded after Camp wanted to find a cheaper way to book direct transportation. Originally the app only used black luxury cars but in 2012 expanded to regular Uber drivers. It also introduced a cheaper option, UberX in the same year.
