Mount Nyiragongo Erupts

Located in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Nyiragongo Volcano ejects a large cloud of smoke and ash high into the sky. As lava spewed down three sides of the volcano, dozens of people were killed and hundreds of thousands were forced to flee. One river of lava flowed right through the the center of Goma and into Lake Kivu, completely splitting the city in two.
