Officer Helps Inmate Escape
A chaotic 11-day manhunt ensued when an assistant director of corrections helped an inmate escape from prison. Officer Vicky White said that she was taking the inmate, Casey White, to the courthouse for a mental health evaluation, but it was all an elaborate lie so that they could both flee. The search for the pair would come to an end when law enforcement tracked them down, resulting in a shootout. While Casey was captured, Vicky died from a self-inflicted gun wound during the debacle. Casey had already been serving 75 years for attempted murder and was awaiting trial for a separate murder charge.
