Hurricane Katrina Damages New Orleans

The Category 5 Hurricane significantly damaged the city of New Orleans. There were over 1,800 deaths and $125 billion in damage. The majority of the damage happened after the levees in New Orlean broke, causing major flooding in the city. The natural disaster prompted national and international assistance and also highlighted the flaws of the U.S government. Particularly, the response from President George W. Bush and FEMA. It took days for officials to get proper aid and support to the city.
