Oakland Decriminalizes Psychedelics

Oakland’s City Council voted unanimously to make enforcement around entheogenic plants and fungi including psilocybin mushrooms, ayahuasca, iboga, and psychoactive cacti—one of the city’s lowest law-enforcement priorities. The resolution also barred city resources from being used to target adults for use or possession, helping push psychedelics into a new era where public policy started catching up to how widely these substances were already being used for healing, ceremony, and self-exploration.
