Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister Is Killed

Lakshman Kadirgamar, Sri Lanka's Minister of Foreign Affairs, is shot dead by unidentified snipers after a swarm at his home. The military blamed the Tamil Tiger rebels for his death due to the fact that he had been highly critical of them during his tenure and led an international campaign to ban them as a terrorist organization. In the week leading up to the shooting, two Tamil men were spotted recording videos of the area around Kadirgamar's house. He was 73 at the time of his passing.
